So what is Rare Groove?
Sometimes referred to as soul jazz, it's music drawing from the jazz community but steeped in the blues tradition - jazz that grooves. It's jazz with an emphasis on the beat, the groove - what makes people smile and want to get up and dance. The term "Rare Groove" originated in the late 1980s, referring to a renewed interest in the jazz-funk of the 1970s: the jazz/soul/funk/blues music of the '60s and '70's made by a number of great (although often relatively unknown) musical masters.

Much of this music has historical significance as the original source that has been sampled and re-used by today's hip-hop artists.
We have formed the RARE GROOVE BAND with the intention of acknowledging these musical masters and bringing their music back into the mainstream. Even though much of the music is 30 or 40 years old, it still sounds fresh today - a good groove is a good groove, then or now.
